Here is a wonderful share from Pat Hyduk Western School of Feng Shui and Fashion Feng Shui alumna:

Hi Terah and Evana

I thought you both might get a kick out of the email below. I am now at the Optimum Health Institute in San Diego where I shall be a volunteer for the next 3 months. As you may know OHI is about cleansing and clearing through the use of raw, live, living foods. My aim here is to 'clear the clutter' and get my body back in shape and into a healthy regime. I shall be here until mid-March.

I send you both heart-felt wishes for the holiday season and a superb and light-filled New Year.

And heart-felt gratitude for your inspiration and teaching in the past so that I could feel inspired to create the event outlined below.

Much love

Pat

FRIDAY NIGHT LIVE AT OHI

Friday night is entertainment night at the Optimum Health Institute where every guest is invited to take part. The goal is to bring some lighthearted energy and fun into our week, where we are encouraged to either sing a song, read a poem, play an instrument. I have never been involved before because I felt I could do none of those creative things.

BUT….this time I was!

Got a brain wave Wednesday, thinking I SHOULD contribute as this class is smaller than usual and I wanted to support the event. So I decided to do a sketch on Feng Shui.

AND as OHI is about live, living foods, my illustrations were live and living too….depicted by actual people whom I chose to represent various concepts.

It was absolutely amazing that I found WONDERFUL examples of each element, each person representing the relevant personality AND physical characteristics to a T! Spirit was definitely with me on this one. Each person came out and did a little skit, something that represented their role/personality. Everyone entered into the spirit of the thing wholeheartedly – it was great!

To begin, I did a brief introduction about FS while our FS 'angel', Zladko, demonstrated a few principles: first energy flow, as he surged through the audience with more than enthusiastic audience partipation. Then back on stage as I defined FS – wind and water – he waved one of my pareos in front of a fan to make it fly in the air, followed by him pouring a jug of water into a bowl. HILARIOUS.

Then, YIN and YANG…A delightful African-American couple, Bernard and Donna, who all this week have been so dear, a touchingly loving presence together. He was Yang, dressed in black; I placed a large white dot on his shoulders front and back. She Yin, dressed in white with black dots. They glided across the stage, close to each other, softly, lovingly. SO BEAUTIFUL! Harmony truly personified!

Our 'angel' held up a giant yin/yang symbol I hurriedly made that afternoon as the couple came onto the stage.

Then, the elements. Each one was represented by five people I was intuitively led to choose from this courageous group, all here for health and healing.

.

1. FIRE: Molly who has VIVID unruly red hair, is enthusiastic, passionate, 'out there', loves to be the centre of attention and has a mischievous streak. She wore my red lounging pants, a purple top under which is a pink t-shirt which shows because the purple top is off the shoulder …just a little suggestive. Very attention-getting. She sinuously danced her way across the stage, loving the catcalls and applause. She was TERRIFIC.

2. EARTH: Ellie who is a FABULOUS example of mother earth – she hugs everyone, loves kids, etc . And so is her colouring: rich brown hair, brown eyes, she is Iranian. She wore my beige yoga pants and my brown+white see-through blouse over a camisole…and bare feet. She came on with a 'baby', singing a lullaby to her as she walked across the stage. SUBLIME.

3. WATER was meant to be Tammy who is a wisp of a girl: Black hair, a dancer, ethereal, very spiritual, and artistic! She was to wear a flowing black dress, a flower in her hair, and one of my flowing georgette scarves, black mainly, with touches of turquoise and pink. Unfortunately she wasn't feeling well on the night, so Justina, young blond girl took her place at the last minute. She was WOOD and WATER combined, and did a great job filling in for us.

4. WOOD: Two people. Kristie, who won the National Businesswoman award of the year (!), has masses of 'do-it' energy, has ash blonde hair, blue eyes, and is very sporty. Kevin (gotta get men involved) is an initiator, has had 8 successful careers, gets things done! She wore a green track outfit, he a blue one and both aimed at audience participation; with their 'do-it' energy, they got people involved, army style, whistles and all. SO ENERGETIC! The crowd roared with laughter – they were SO funny!

5. METAL: Beverley, an elegant grey-haired woman who is precise, organized, loves order….one can see it in how she dresses. She wore my white sweater and gray yoga pants, silver 'diamond' studded hoop earrings, along with my silver dollar pendant on a silver chain. Nicknamed 'Flinty', just for the skit, she was PERFECTION.

It came together so beautifully. Thank goodness I had enough clothes for them, as most of them came just for one or two weeks with only sweats and relaxed gear.

We finished with our FS angel demonstrating various enhancements: lighting a candle, ringing some wind chimes, holding up a giant 'crystal' which I had just that day bought at a 99 cent store nearby, a plant – strong, thriving and alive – a great metaphor for what OHI can produce in its guests here.

The ending: everyone grouped together on the stage to demonstrate balance and harmony, creating a small human pyramid of 3 people, with the others around them in a yoga meditative position.

MUSIC. For any future events – should they happen – I would choose a different music for each element. This time I had peaceful instrumental music in the background, harmony and balance of course!

The reactions of the audience are, the day after, still flowing over…such lovely comments about the skit and how it was received. People commented on how FS was so much easier to understand when illustrated visually. An architect said it was one of the best skits he had ever seen and brought home to him the importance of beauty in our lives.

The main thing was that we had a BLAST – the fabulous feng shui team cooperated BRILLIANTLY. We felt SO good afterward, the discomforts of detoxing alleviated and forgotten!

I learned a Feng Shui lesson this year I thought I would share. I announced to my husband at the beginning of this year that 2008 was supposed to be all about Health and Wealth. Well, I ended up hurting my knees on the treadmill, was misdiagnosed by two doctors, and basically had the year from Hell as far as my health was concerned. And it’s been about the same as far as money. I put some little houses out to represent the homes I hoped to own someday. Well, we now own 4 houses and a store right here in town (too long of a story on how that happened!).

The lesson I learned is how important it is to be VERY SPECIFIC with one’s intentions. I should have said that 2008 was going to be the year for GOOD HEALTH and to buy VACATION HOMES IN CAPE COD, RANCHO MIRAGE, ETC.

Blessings to you!

In China, It’s All About the Numbers

Why are the Chinese so attracted to numbers? Do they hold the key to ancient secrets or are they merely an odd fixation? The Chinese believe that some numbers are lucky and some aren’t, as do their counterparts throughout the world.

The difference is that lucky numbers are a big industry in China where people can actually select their own phone numbers, license plates, and other random things, which is an expensive, as well as lucky, purchase.

In China, numbers are often integrated with sounds and have associative meanings. For example, the number eight is considered the luckiest number of all because it is pronounced “ba” which sounds like “fa,” the Chinese word for prosperity.

House numbers and telephone numbers containing the number eight are extremely sought after, and it is no coincidence that the Beijing Olympics began on 08/08/2008 at 8pm.

4 In China, Its All About the Numbers pictureConversely, the number four is considered bad luck because it is pronounced “si” which is similar to the Chinese word for death.

When ordering dishes in a Chinese restaurant, the courses are usually even-numbered, such as four, six, eight, etc. It is also customary if a guest visits a home bearing a gift of fruit the number will be even.

When buying apartments in China, those that are on even numbered floors are always the first to sell out. The fourth floor, on the other hand, is usually the cheapest, and usually foreigners, oblivious to the number’s connotations, occupy it.

6 In China, Its All About the Numbers pictureThe number six is considered very lucky, because the pronunciation sounds like the word for ‘flow’, suggesting that everything will go very smoothly. The car license plate ‘AC6688’ recently sold for 80,000Y ($11,700 US dollars).

The number two is lucky as well, because it suggests harmonious existence and reproduction.

Some odd numbers are also considered favorable. Five is very significant because it relates to the five elements of Feng Shui (metal, wood, water, fire and earth), the five basic colors (red, green, yellow, black and white) and the five tastes (sweet, sour, salty bitter and pungent).

1 In China, Its All About the Numbers pictureThe number one is favored by young lovers and is exemplified in the Chinese idiom, “one heart and one soul.” A man will usually send one flower to his beloved to express undivided love or he may send nine (jiu), which is a homonym for the word denoting forever.

The number seven has experienced a bit of a renaissance as it was traditionally associated with anger. In recent years it has become more acceptable as it sounds a little bit like the words for ‘wife’ or ‘family’.

What’s in a number?

Who can say, but do YOU dare to find out?

Article from: The Courier-Mail

By Geoff Shearer

August 27, 2008 12:00am

IF you ever need to find true north, stand directly in line with a cow and stare at the end where the bulldust comes out. The latest research marvel has found that most cattle align their bodies in a north-south direction.

Cows that were grazing or resting tended to face the earth’s magnetic north pole, a team of German and Czech researchers reported the latest issue of the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

And the finding held true regardless of what continent the cattle were on. Study leaders Hynek Burda and Sabine Begall of the faculty of biology at the University of Duisburg-Essen in Germany said: "The magnetic field of the Earth has to be considered as a factor." The scientists used Google Earth to find images of more than 8500 cattle worldwide.

They found 60 per cent to 70 per cent of cattle were oriented north-south, which Dr Begall termed a "highly significant deviation from random distribution. Of course, the question arises whether humans show also such a spontaneous behaviour," she said. "(And what) consequences does it have for their health?"

The animal magnetism displayed by the cattle may have some consequences in the bedrooms of Australians. The results, at least, have reignited the debate on the health benefits or otherwise of sleeping in a north-south facing position. "The north-south direction facilitates the running of the magnetic currents of the poles through your body," one such sleeper said, "from head to toe and toe to head – the way your body’s current runs – rather than across your body, as when your bed is situated east-west."

But according to the Indian science of Vastu Shastra, the body is a magnet with the head as North Pole and the feet South Pole. It maintains the head should be placed in the east or south for adults and in the east for children. Proponents warn: "Never sleep with the head towards the north direction", as this is believed to cause a "repulsive force" with the Earth’s magnetic north.

The ancient Chinese practice of feng shui is more "encompassing". Feng shui experts do support the idea that sleeping north-south can strengthen your physical health, but they say don’t discount the three other directions, as each has benefits depending on how your life is currented. Feng shui consultant and author Terah Kathryn Collins said compass positions in sleep can have an effect on aspects of health, intuition and energy.

She said sleeping south-north will "deepen sleep"; while east-west helps you wake up quickly and have more energy. West-east slows down your life, which Collins said is a good idea for stressed adults or hyperactive children.

Somewhat surprisingly, neither feng shui nor Vastu suggest you keep a north-south aligned cow in your bedroom.
